The Cadre took place at Ward Barracks with two weeks of Skill at Arms, a week of Tactical Exercises Without Troops (TEWTS) and a week-long final exercise in the field.
A total of 50 people attended including instructors and students. Phase one focused on AFV recognition and basic military knowledge and once completed we deployed onto Salisbury Plain for the TEWTS.
Students were taught how to build, occupy, and sustain themselves in an Anti-Tank passive 4-man OP (observation post), conduct an Anti-Armour Ambush and Anti-Armour Raid in an operational environment. We were lucky enough to be taught by Sjt Pidgeon, who has wealth of experience within the Anti-Tank Platoon and has served as an instructor at the Specialist Weapons School. We also benefitted from an external instructor from MAB who covered things like passive two-man rural OPs which provided Riflemen and Commanders

with different options.
We were finally tested with a one-week
final exercise. Initially the cadre deployed out on long-term passive OPs to log and report enemy movements. This was followed by a Platoon level Anti-Armour Ambush. And finally, the cadre conducted a section level Anti- Armour Raid onto a known enemy location. This was supported by real MTLB’s which added realism for our Riflemen.
