Hitting the Slopes
In March 40 members of the battalion jetted off to the Austrian Ski Resort of Zell Am See for the annual Ex FROSTED WYVERN.
Contrary to much of the summer travelling chaos in the UK, our journey was mostly without problems, and we arrived in the Austrian Alps, greeted with glittering views, and classic Austrian architecture. The town played host to the intensive week of on and off-piste skiing, with experience ranging from 30+ years to beginners.
The first morning set the tone for the week, with glorious blue skies and an atmosphere of pure enthusiasm to get on the slopes. Groups of skiers all went their own way and began training appropriately as the sun beat down. Life is tough at times!
At the end of each day, the smiles on the faces of the Riflemen was testament to the quality of the training they received, and the manner in which the trip was conducted.
We were also able to enjoy the sites of Zell Am See, which was simply stunning. It even allowed those from their BAOR days to
practice some slightly broken German with the locals, particularly when ordering the local refreshments!
Thanks to Captain Cobbold, and all instructors for a fantastic trip – we look forward to what next year will bring!

In groups of between six and eight, and with an instructor the whole time, both the quality and quantity of training was first class.
