Wakefield Branch have an arresting time!
In June members of the Wakefield branch spent an afternoon as guests of West Yorkshire Police Training and Development and their site at Carrgate in Wakefield. During the afternoon officers from the Motorway Police, the Firearms team, and the National Police Air Support unit gave our members tours and demonstrations of the police tactical equipment.
The visit was organised by branch member Jim Greenlee, a former member of West Yorkshire Police. A special thanks to our guides for the afternoon Nick, Diane, and Tony.
      Cadet Music Concentration
Buglers, side drummers, brass and woodwind music cadets from Batley and Wakefield Detachments of E Coy Yorkshire North and West ACF attended a weeklong music concentration at Otterburn Training Camp. Throughout the week cadet buglers, drummers, and musicians of all abilities, from beginner to advance, were taught musical performance skills, gave public concerts in Otterburn village and at Beamish Living Museum.
Every cadet achieved a music qualification, and some received additional awards from the various cadres. Cadet Kasey Watson from Batley Detachment was awarded ‘Most Improved Student’
in Beginner Band, from Wakefield Detachment Cadet Dunn came 2nd in the Army Cadet Music Talent Show, and LCpl Minshull, also from Wakefield Detachment, was just pipped to the post for ‘Best Beginner Bugler.’
Well done to all our music cadets for some amazing achievements during a very intensive week of music training.
   Falklands War Commemoration
Cadet musicians from Batley, Mirfield, and Wakefield Detachments of E Coy Yorkshire N&W ACF joined other cadet musicians from Humberside and South Yorkshire ACF Band, and Derbyshire ACF Band in the City of Hull to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Falklands War. The cadet musicians gave musical demonstrations and performances in the centre of Hull throughout the day.
The next day they took part in the parade through the city led by the Royal Marines Band and Corps of Drums. They had a great time entertaining the crowds.

  Remembering KOYLI fallen
In April Capt (Retd) Dickie Dutton, his wife Pippa, and Association Secretary Colin Cranswick as Standard Bearer made a four-day visit to Steinkjer in Norway. They were there to represent
the KOYLI at the annual remembrance and wreath laying ceremonies at Hustad Farm and the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery in Trondheim to remember the KOYLI and Lincoln’s soldiers who fell on 21 Apr 1940 defending Norway.
Kevin Fawcett as Bugler was also to have been in the group but contracted COVID and was unable to travel. He sent recordings of him sounding Last Post and Reveille which were played during the ceremonies and his haunting rendition was the talking point on everyone lips.
Our group was hosted and accommodated by an amazing Norwegian family, Paul and Britt Kiddell. Paul from Devon was a former TA Royal Signals soldier who met Brit during a NATO exercise, he eventually relocated to Norway over 25 years ago and married Britt.
Paul and Brit are the people responsible for much of the in-depth research, and tracing of family members of the KOYLI and Lincoln’s soldiers killed in the various battles in Norway during WWII.
We are most grateful to Paul and Britt for being the most generous hosts and for the dedicated and continuing work
to honour and remember the KOYLI and Lincoln’s soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of Norway.
They have both been granted Honorary Association membership in recognition of their wonderful contribution.
