Picnic on the Plot at Beaumaris Allotments
Beaumaris plotholders and guests enjoyed a lovely autumn day on the site with everyone bringing a picnic, plus many also bringing delicious cakes
to share. One highly-organised new plotholder, Ann, even set up a mini cafe offering tea and coffee to everyone.
Keevan gave everyone a taste of his ‘champagne’ made from his Seyval Blanc grapes, which was much appreciated. In addition plotholders were able to try the cider made from
the windfalls gathered from the site last year. Made by local cider company Jaspells, there was a choice of two ciders, both of which were delicious.
The many children who came along enjoyed colouring-in and producing masks, several of whom then wore them for the rest of the day. They also enjoyed playing Jenga.
The Mayor of Beaumaris, Councillor Clay Theakston, then ended the day
by drawing the free raffle. The Deputy Mayor and the Chairman of the Town Council Allotments Sub-committee also attended.
Committee member Steve Blight,
who came up with the idea of the Picnic on the Plot as an alternative to the annual BBQ (which is one of the events organised by the Beaumaris Allotments Society for its members), said: “It has been a real success, with everyone having a lovely day and having the chance to catch up with their fellow plotholders. It was also good to see so many associate members (those on the waiting list) come along to experience for themselves what we get up to when we are not working on our plots.”
Members are now looking forward to the last event of the year which will be the BAAFTAs (Beaumaris Annual Awards For The Allotments), taking place in October.
