Thanks must go to the Northern Branch for their hard work to run the show and also to the West Yorkshire DA for a great veg display which
also complimented the very busy DT Brown sales stand, all in the same marquee as the veg competitions which worked well.
With Harrogate successfully completed, the following week some of our intrepid growers continued
to Malvern for the Midlands Branch Championships plus the Malvern Autumn Show (MAS) and Malvern Grow to Show, again with some great success. Whilst Niall Currie didn’t travel to Malvern, his Onions did, courtesy of Rob Holmes and Niall achieved 1st place in class 8 (Onions 1.5Kg & over) with Ian Stocks coming 3rd . Niall also came 1st in class 9 (Onions over 250g and under 1.5Kg) with Gareth Cameron coming 2nd. Young Scott Hodgson was delighted
with his 1st prize for his small fruited tomatoes which he grew with an Autopot system that he had won in the long chilli class at Kelso in 2017 when he was only 10 years old!
Ian Stocks achieved a 1st in the MAS Pot Leek competition and a 2nd in
the MAS Onion Champs (x5 onions ≥ 1.5Kg)
With the last of the NVS Branch Championships completed, a visit
to the Gun Inn rounded off the year and saw Ian Stocks coming 2nd in
the Blanch leeks and Quality Onions, whilst John Currie achieved 3rd in
the Blanch Leeks, Gareth Cameron achieved 3rd in the Quality Onions and Ronnie Gill came 3rd with his Heavy Onion.
What a great way to return to “normal”, travelling to shows again, meeting up with friends again and collecting a few prizes on the way.
I’m quite sure that as the covid situation continues to improve, 2022 will see everyone back with a bang. Congratulations to all the Scottish Branch members who ventured South once more in 2021, I hope I have managed to capture all your many successes.
