scene we observed that day. Green fields with a horse and sheep grazing, the river flowing and the clear blue sky above, feeling the warmth of the sun on our faces.
As we continued, we gradually saw the expanse Talybont reservoir stretching out in the distance, eventually arriving at the dam end of the reservoir. We heard a cuckoo calling loud and clear in the air – a beautiful sound and quite rare these days. It was a truly marvellous experience.
We stopped to admire the scenery surrounding the dam, the mountains, woods, and the sun glinting off the water. Then it was time to return to Talybont for Lunch at a café near to the canal. We enjoyed our meal outdoors, where we could watch the canal boats glide towards or from the swing bridge.
In June, most members travelled out of Wales to Ledbury Herefordshire to visit Eastnor Castle nestled in the Malvern Hills. The weather was kind, slightly cold but dry. The visit commenced with a tour of the castle, originally build in 1810, and revived by new owners since 1949 restoring the building and interiors etc.
It was a fascinating visit providing amazing glimpses into the history of the castle as we wandered through the state rooms, libraries, and bedrooms, viewing medieval armour, fine art, and amazing tapestries. The guides in each room were very knowledgeable and offered insights into how the family had restored the Castle.
In the afternoon we took the walk around the arboretum and lake, where we saw vast conifers and other plants and trees. Then it was off to the Knight’s Maze where some intrepid members ventured inside. Laughter echoed from the maze as they navigated their way through before eventually appearing at the exit.
The day concluded with the enjoyment of a 99 ice cream! It was a wonderful day; we emersed
ourselves in the castle’s atmosphere and treasures. Marvelled at the beautiful arboretum, and caught up with each other, conversations and laughter ringing out as we walked. Thank you, Sally, for organising such a wonderful day.
