and resuming normal activity. Sadly, this was not to be, and we were shocked by her sudden death on 28 June.
Carolyn loved nursing and especially her time as a military nurse. As a retired QA she supported the West Country branch as a long time Vice Chair and committee member, and attended every function that it was possible to do so. She loved her family, an enormously proud wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved Wales, wearing her daffodil hat for all the Six Nations matches, and taking every opportunity to listen to Welsh superstars – Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, Katherine Jenkins etc...
Carolyn was a great friend to so many, people she met as a schoolgirl, student nurse, Army, through to retirement in Wales and Bristol, who have remained friends throughout.
Eight members of the branch attended her Memorial Service in Bristol on 1 August, a moving service which gave us an insight to Carolyn in other areas of her life and we were able to pass on our stories of Carolyn in the West Country branch to her family. Carolyn has many friends in our branch, and we remember her for so many qualities, her kindness, her friendliness, wisdom, exacting standards, elegance, and fun. We do and will continue to miss her.

OBITUARY
A great supporter
of Millbank Branch
Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Woods ARRC TD SRN DN, born 13 February 1930 and died on 17 February 2024 was a long-standing member of the Millbank Branch of QAs.
Betty joined the Territorial Army in November 1971. She had trained in London as an SRN in the 1950s, and following the early death of her husband she was looking for something else to do with her spare time.
She was commissioned as a Captain and served with the Brighton detachment of 217(L) General Hospital RAMC(V). She was promoted to Major in 1977, was awarded the Territorial Decoration in 1983, and the following year was appointed Officer Commanding of the Brighton detachment. Betty was honoured with the ARRC in 1987.
Throughout her service with 217 she was working as a community nurse. She finished her career in the TA as the Mess Manager to the Officers Mess from 1990 to 1994.
Betty was honoured with the ARRC in 1987
Betty was a great supporter of the Millbank Branch of the QARANC Association until failing heath made it hard for her to come to London. She died in February following a fall in December, having celebrated her 94th birthday just before she died, with friends and family. She will be missed.
