newly rejuvenated Zabzimek force, unfortunately undeterred by our previous successes. It was a worthwhile experience, if only for proof that the body can operate on less than three hours of sleep over three days. Adding to the reality of this lesson in defensive operations was Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine. It became an impor- tant and humbling reminder for many that this job we do is real and unpredictable.

Other highlights of this term include the Company dinner night. In the Junior Term, this event was the first introduction to a formal military din- ner – a chance to get to grips with toasts, vignettes and minimal com- fort breaks. This term we were able to welcome guests into the fold, giv- ing the uninitiated the opportunity to mingle with our companies’ staff and catch a glimpse of a rather merry academy evening.
The pace of Sandhurst, without a doubt, increases during the Intermediate Term. Expec- tations grow and responsibilities increase. Such an action-packed period has taken its toll; yet, in the process, as we’ve thrown everything at this course to learn, develop and prove our abilities, we’ve also discovered new sides to ourselves and our comrades. Be it through waking for the third time that night for a ‘gibberingly’ cold stag, digging well into the 38th hour or slogging round the polo pitches for yet another battle PT ses- sion, we’ve filled our box of contingencies. And the next time we tackle something outside of our comfort zones, we now know we’ve got more to give.
