Commissioning Course Short (CCS) Reservist PQO perspective
The very last thing I ever thought I’d be doing after 30 years in the Army Reserves would be leopard crawling over 100 meters to put in a Section Attack on Barossa training area, and racing through a waist high stream with 39 Pla- toon carrying a weighted stretcher. It was a long way from my civilian day job as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner!
I arrived at Sandhurst for the Professional Quali- fied Officers (PQO) Commissioning Course Short 222 with some trepidation, but by the end of it, I was so thankful for the opportunity of such a unique, rewarding experience.
The training was certainly robust. I enjoyed the physical sessions (mostly), including swimming, hill sprints and stretcher carries, although they were challenging, and rightly so. It must be said that I don’t move quite as fast as I used to; how-

ever, I was delighted to still be keeping up rela- tively well despite a very fit cohort, most of whom I had many years on!
The Regular Army Instructors were absolutely amazing. Supportive, helpful, and open to teach- ing this very diverse group of Reservists what it means to lead, all packed into a very short space
