                                WHAT’S ON
In and Around Thrapston
Summer is beginning to turn to
Autumn. The children are back
to school, the days are starting to
shorten, and the new season of
Strictly is about to begin! We are
still enjoying summer whilst it lasts, though. Some of our members are shortly to visit Stamford, for a guided walking tour. Later, we have a trip to Lincoln, one of many organised by our county office. Our walking group also continues to meet regularly, whatever the weather. You may spot them after their walk, as they try out the various cafes available in town.
In the wider Thrapston (and Islip) community, our skittles team continues to meet at Islip WMC, we are attending the mayors civic service and we plan to take part in the
Remembrance parade in Novemeber. Looking ahead to our monthly
meetings, in October, we have a talk from Thrapston History Society, and in November Gary Smith will
be telling us about his trip to the Himalayas. Is it too early to mention the ‘C’ word? We are planning our seasonal celebrations with live musical entertainment from the fantastic Lincoln Noel.
All meetings take place in the Thrapston Baptist Church, and we meet on the first Thursday of the month. Meetings start at 7.30pm and visitors are ALWAYS welcome. Entrance is £5, which includes refreshments. It would be lovely to meet you, so please come along and say hello.
Thrapston Plaza Opera – Comic Choral Concert
This is an exciting time for TPO.
We have just started rehearsing for our 3rd November ‘Comic Choral Concert’ which, following some popular, well known opera choruses in the first half, will feature the first ever performance of a new fun piece “Carmina Comica – The Antidote to Choral Cantatas”.
This whimsical sendup is written by Chris Lowe, founder head of Prince William School, Oundle, with music composed by the BBC Radio 4 ‘I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue’ pianist, Colin Sell who will be giving us a singing workshop on 22nd October as well as an interval talk about his life as a radio celebrity during concert itself.
With four Tuesday evening rehearsals still
in October, (7.30pm St James Hall, Thrapston) it’s not too late to join the chorus. For details, contact Music Director Vincent Davy on 01832 733586 or visit thrapstonplazaopera.com
