EAGLE AND CARBINE 89 REGIMENTAL MUSEUM AND SHOP
It has been an exciting year in the Museum with new displays, activities at Leuchars and some brilliant acquisi- tions for the collection.
The Family Film Project was finished and is now playing in the Museum. The film is of interviews with SCOTS DG family members reflecting on what the Regiment means to them and how they support those serving in it. The visitors have fed back how much they enjoyed the film and seeing another aspect to the Regiment. For those that cannot make it to Edinburgh Castle it is also online at the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards Museum Facebook page. Also, as part of the project a new series of display panels have been installed that tell the recent Regimental history from the Balkans conflict through to its role during the pandemic. One of the regular comments from veterans and serving soldiers – quite rightly - was how the Regiment’s recent history was not covered. There is still work to do on this but progress is being made. Towards the end of the year the Regimental sports case was refreshed. As well as boxing belts won by Private Riddell before the First World War it now has a Bath rugby top worn by L/Cpl Rokoduguni and the Regimental racing silks on display.
At the beginning of the year the Museum acquired the set of miniature medals that had belonged to HRH Prince Arthur of Connaught. He was a significant figure in the history of the 2nd Dragoons (The Royal Scots Greys). The

grandson of Queen Victoria, he was commissioned into the 7th (Queens Own) Hussars in 1901 but transferred to the Scots Greys as a Captain in 1907. He retired in 1919 and was promoted to Honorary Major-General. Two years later he was appointed Colonel-in-Chief of the Regiment and carried out this role until his death in 1938. The opportunity to acquire such important artefacts and be able to ensure they can be widely appreciated by the public is very rare. The Museum is very grateful to the Regimental Charity for supporting the purchase alongside a successful application to the National Fund for Acquisitions. From Leuchars the Welfare team
