As it happens both David Houghton (Kings Director) and Andrew Marinas (Head of Tree Department) are keen to support the Services and assist with developing the sites which promote the environment and biodiversity. ‘We have a few heavy-duty benches you can have’ says David, ‘I can probably dig out a few mature trees for you’ adds David ‘and my boys can get the work done for you in a few days.’ Needless to say, this offer was readily accepted, and Steve also stepped up with the offer from Tivoli to cover the cost of a few bollards to frame the sites.
Two week later and the sun has returned, the gang from Kings have arrived and, despite one young lad having to return to Milton Keynes to collect his ID, work commenced on the second phase. Kings, true to their word, arrived on masse and set to work scarifying (QM and I had to Google this), fixing posts and benches and planting trees (Limes and Cherries). Work was complete within 3 days and the Brigadier and Station Commander dropped by to inspect the works and pass on
their thanks. George even got off school to meet the team.
So already well into spring and heading towards summer, the wildflowers are sown and the shrubs (let’s be honest they’re not trees yet) are in leaf and we have signs of cherry blossom. For now, enjoy the opportunity to sit an await the result of a Covid test or grab a pasty from the shop and
have a socially distanced picnic. The Glens of Wyton may take a few years to establish but will hopefully provide a space to relax and watch the odd bumble bee going about its business for years to come.
Special thanks to all the Team at Kings and Tivoli for their enthusiasm, hard work and generosity.
