 Foreword from the
Station
  Contents
As a hint of summer is starting to emerge through the spring showers, there is an ever-increasing feeling of hope across the Station. The UK’s vaccination programme continues at pace and restrictions are slowly lifting. More facilities are open and I am cautiously optimistic of a return to greater freedoms in our working and personal lives in the coming weeks and months. I often reflect on how far we have come as a station since those early days of lockdown over a year ago and I am extremely impressed by the dedication and hard work of all personnel here at RAF Wyton.
The articles in this edition continue to mark the Station’s journey through the pandemic and, increasingly, our tentative journey forward to greater freedoms. It starts
with articles from teams staying connected virtually, well versed in the running of online quiz nights, fitness challenges and events that are so important to the wellbeing of our personnel. These have become an all-too- familiar feature of the past 15 months; which I am sure we will look back on with mixed emotions in the coming months and years.
The response to COVID is perhaps best articulated in the article detailing the activities of personnel who have worked at the Joint Biosecurity Centre (JBC). Established quickly in the first few months of the pandemic, the JBC was tasked to provide analysis and data-driven decision support to inform the Government’s response. It is a fascinating article that demonstrates the impact personnel from RAF Wyton have achieved across the whole of the UK.
