Colombia, Bangladesh, India, and Kenya. The entertainment concluded with an international dance, which saw Air Vice-Marshal Chris Luck, lead from the front and partake in some contemporary dancing!
The culinary dishes on display ranged from: Australian barbecued crocodile and kangaroo; delicious traditional dishes from Indonesia; fragrant and enticing curries from India; to traditional cheeses and baguettes from France. Visitors also had the opportunity to sample sweet and delicate desserts from Afghanistan and Oman while enjoying the relaxing atmosphere in the comfort of the Saudi majlis sofas. There were also opportunities to sample the distinctive flavour of Irish whiskey, or the ‘water of life’ as it is referred to in Ireland, while also sampling aromatic sake from Japan. France provided beautiful red wines from the Bordeaux Region, and Canada provided their famous ‘Moose Milk’.
International Day is undoubtedly the largest event on the JSCSC calendar. While the Committee, with the assistance of Lieutenant Colonel Rebecca Talbot, conducted much of the associated work, it would be remiss to omit the assistance and support that was provided by Ms Angie Curtis and her colleague Miss Tracey Drake. Moreover, the work carried out by the families and friends of the various national representatives must be emphasized, as the culinary and cultural experience would not be possible without their efforts.
International Day 2017 was a celebration of diversity through a common unified effort. This demonstrated the continued relevance of Casals’ rumination that borders should not be obstacles, and the JSCSC’s motto of ‘Strength in Unity’ is a true reflection of
the multi-cultural and multi-faceted international community of ACSC 21.
