Land Capabilities Visit

AS PART OF THE ACSC Land Capabilities week, the students of
ACSC21 spent two days on Salisbury Plain. The visit provided an
excellent insight into the capabilities of the British Army, with a focus on 3 Division. Although the Army were
unable to mount a live firepower demonstration this year for a variety of reasons, the visit was very successful and showcased the Army’s capabilities, doctrine and tactics.

This illustrated the challenges of maintaining a coherent recognised picture as well as the relationships between the strategic, operational and tactical levels.
The Close demonstration was most impressive, conducted at Copehill Down, the Army’s built up area training facility, in which the King’s Royal
Hussars Battle Group conducted a convincing demonstration of an assault in the urban environment. The visceral character and complexity of this mode of warfare was starkly apparent.
A wide range of the Army’s equipment to support the Deep fight was on
show, including Apache, Wildcat, ground based air defence (GBAD), Watchkeeper and the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) to mention just a few. This gave the visiting
