Perspective from Nepal Major Ghimire Govinda
The ACSC is a brilliant platform for my career in terms of professional and personal development; especially for jobs as a staff officer at the Division and Army headquarters level, and those hallowed command appointments at company and battalion level and
above. Since ACSC 1, an officer from the Nepalese Army has attended the Course annually. English is my second language and, at times, it was tough to comprehend what the speakers say and not getting the jokes (while the British officers had already
turned pink laughing) could be quite frustrating at times. Thankfully though, I am not that bad and actually got to understand a few jokes too! I only got married last year and by chance, my wife and I have been able to spend our first year together here in the UK.
Nepal has only a land army; therefore, the opportunity to learn from students from other Services like the Navy and Air Force has been invaluable to me. Furthermore, the cohort of international officers with their wide experiences and friendliness, made the course so much more memorable. It was also a delight for me to hear from the wide range of guest speakers who spoke to us in the Cormorant Hall. The Course was a good balance between giving the mind its dose of education (think getting stuck in the library during night hours writing essays), and some relaxation (think getting stuck in the Henderson bar with whisky glasses at night hours). Good times indeed!
