excellent speech on the Battle of Trafalgar from the Guest of Honour for the evening, Mr Nick Childs, former BBC Defence Correspondent and now Senior Fellow for Naval Forces and Maritime Security at the International Institute For Strategic Studies.
Finally, following the Loyal Toast to the ‘Immortal Memory’ of Nelson, traditionally undertaken in silence, the walls of the Dining Room then shook with rousing renditions of ‘Drunken Sailor’, ‘Hearts of Oak’ and ‘Rule Britannia’, before the formal part of the evening drew to a close, with the less formal part of the evening continuing in the Henderson Bar until the early hours of the morning.
The rst mess dinner for ACSC 20, Trafalgar Night was an opportunity to enjoy good food and good wine in good company and set the bar for the following service dinners. The Syndicate Room Activity on ‘Fragile States’ the following morning could not have been more appropriate.
