After a relatively sleepless night for most, spent on the  oor of a Brittany Ferries 1980s reclining seat lounge, it was time to set off for a 54 mile tour of the Normandy beaches, via Pegasus Bridge and Merville Battery. Groups donned a more leisurely pace, taking the time to see the sights along the way and stopping for coffee, ice cream and a leisurely lunch in Arromanches. Sadly, it was on this ride when one of the DS Group leaders, James Scott, managed to break a number of Rules, including: Rule #2: Lead by example; Rule #43: Don’t be a jackass; and
Rule #85: Descend like a pro. Luckily no-one else was involved, and he walked away with just some nasty gravel rash and a few bruises. However, some redemption was found later in his compliance with Rule #58: Support your local bike shop, in seeking to return his steed back to health.
A couple of days rest gave the peloton chance to relax their weary legs and have a couple of days off the saddle. However, this didn’t prevent yet further adherence to some notable rules.
