gales. The Stuart and Jones watch managed to get Tern ying along at 8.5 knots for nearly an hour but this was then followed by light winds and a much more sedate pace. The weather nally changed for the more exciting just after dawn. Changing foresails and ree ng the main in rising wind and wave was a real test of mettle, but was worth it with some very fast but pretty wet sailing up to the English coast. Tern managed to keep to course and was able to put into Bembridge harbour for a great lunch and
a well-deserved rest, whilst Skua spent a bit longer beating into the wind to arrive early at Gunwharf Quays. After its brief stopover Tern joined up with Skua and the crews celebrated the end of the trip with another run ashore. The nal day was a quick motor over to Gosport and what turned out to be a surprisingly painless boat handover (surely not!). All the crew agreed that CORMORANT DASH was a great nish to the course and topped and tailed the staff ride perfectly. Hopefully a few more committed sailors were born and our International colleagues will have some great memories of France and the UK from the sea.
 The Cormorant Club
The Cormorant Club is open to all graduates and staff of the Joint Services Command and Staff College and its predecessors. It aims to build and support alumni networks and contribute to conversation and debate on defence-related topics.
The Club was founded in 1947 by the members of the rst Joint Services Staff College course, to maintain contact between those of cers who had passed through the College, including US and Commonwealth of cers. When the JSSC closed, the Cormorant Club continued as the alumni association for the National Defence College and the Joint Services Defence College (JSDC). The Club now has just over 7,000 members.
The Cormorant Club also holds a Spring Reunion at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) in London and joins current members of the ACSC at the Taranto Night Dinner at JSCSC each November.
