Tips for home energy saving
 There is no doubt that this winter is going
to be tough as the energy price hikes hit not only our own household supplies but also the supply chains which provide us with food, goods and services. To help you save
energy and money (in some cases, in
the longer term), local environmental organisation, Transition Oundle, has:
- updated our simple no or low cost
behavioural or technical tips that everyone can act upon immediately – available on our website
- published (on our website) in depth
advice for those looking to upgrade the fabric of their home
- set up a group on Facebook to discuss the content of that advice and provide more practical support
- trained up two volunteers to conduct infra- red surveys which help identify where heat is being lost from a building.
Home budgets will be tight this winter, but if you have spare money to invest, consider some of the following improvements which will cut

your carbon and save you money in the longer term:
Upgrade home insulation. Loft insulation is the cheapest fix; underfloor, internal and external
wall insulation is more expensive and harder to install.
Replace old windows and doors.
Energy efficient alternatives come in different materials and appearances to suit a range
of tastes and budgets. Install secondary glazing if building age restrictions don’t allow replacements.
Install local heating controls. Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRVs) on radiators or room thermostats allow temperature management on a room by room basis.
Replace your old boiler – ideally with an renewable heat source (air, water or ground
