After a busy run up to Christmas 2021 with the Sovereign’s parade at RMAS, the new year was a far more leisurely paced start. February saw the Pipes and Drums move to Edinburgh for a 4 week concentration. It was an ideal time and opportunity for both pipers and drummers to work on a mix of band, competition and solo repertoires in preparation for what would prove to be a very musically demanding but highly rewarding year. In a break to all the practices, the band also spent a chilly early morning
putting on full dress for the first time in 2022 at the Great Hall of Edinburgh Castle before it opened to the public, recording a video shoot for the upcoming Amazing Grace 50th anniversary. Time was passing quickly however and the Army Pipe

Band Championships were looming large but the time, effort and dedication of everyone involved was to prove we knew our business! The band itself swept the board with 1st place in the Mixed Ensemble, the MSR and the Medley which meant being crowned with the title of 2022 Army Champions! But it didn’t end there....on the solo front, 6 pipers – The Pipe Major, Cpl Jardine, LCpl Clark, LCpl Waugh, Tpr McKay and Tpr McGowan and 3 drummers – LCpl McBurney,
Tpr Edgar and Tpr Richmond walked away with 15 awards collec- tively, a massive well done to them all. Of special mention are 2 competitors, Pipe Major Ben Duncan – the 2022 Army Champion Piper following 1st’s in the Open Piobaireachd, Open March, Open
