The Army team also ensures there are robust reporting systems in place in order to allow the Executive an overview of employability, deployability and medical retirement as well as disease/injury trend monitoring.
The RAF ROMD are involved in optimising deployability, readiness and fitness for duty through efficient award of appropriate temporary and permanent Joint Medical Employment Standard grades; and through specialist OH management of return to work following illness or injury. The ROMD also maximise operational capability through specialist advice to the Executive and shape sS and tri-Service policies to align with strategic intent. They support the ongoing restructuring of RAF Recruiting Organisations to meet future challenges post-Strategic Defence and Security Review and maximise efficiency, by providing a first class medical assessment programme for those seeking RAF employment. The RAF maintains Force Health through the introduction and supervision of effective health surveillance programmes, and ensure that work practices are compliant with health and safety regulations. The ROMD provide and continually expand specialist aviation medicine services to meet demands and align with emerging technology.
The RN ROHT are involved in the assessment of medical fitness for operational deployment to support Force Generation. They also provide support to medical boards, which is a key enabler to priority One. Health surveillance is a statutory requirement. The RN ROHT is involved in the management of the wounded, injured and sick including vocational rehabilitation. The provision of specialist OM include tasking’s in order to provide specialist OM services in diving, submarine and radiation medicine.
HQ DPHC adopts a risk based approach to the governance of its Regional HQs and their medical facilities in accordance with SG’s direction, clinical policy and published corporate governance. Further assurance is given from Chief of Staff
HQ DPHC’s Team in the form of the OF4 and OF3 Healthcare Governance/ Corporate Governance. The Inspector General assures HQ DPHC governance processes on behalf of SG. SG may also seek additional assurance through Defence Internal Audit (DIA) or wider civilian healthcare bodies, for example, the Care Quality Commission.

   Annual ceremony of remembrance & wreath laying – Irish National War Gardens Islandbridge Dublin
Ruth Smith and I travelled to Dublin on Saturday 12 July to take part in the ceremony. I laid the Wreath for the women’s section Carrickfergus RBL and Ruth laid the wreath on behalf of our Northern Ireland branch.
You will see from the pictures that the Lord Mayor of Dublin wore a priceless chain given to Dublin by William II it is made of old rose gold with each link joined beautifully by a crafted York rose. The new mascot for the Irish army a pup! called Ciara whose brother Donal is the mascot for the Irish Guards.
