Anyone for tennis? Thrapston and District Tennis Club...
Are you hankering to do something active that is not limited to the lockdown options
of cycling, jogging or walking? Thrapston Tennis Club is recognised for its friendliness and great facilities. When we re-open, we can offer you a different challenge to stay fit while enjoying the outdoors. We are aiming to provide sessions for all ages and abilities to kick-start fitness, sporting activity and fun! As this is likely to be a fast-moving situation, please look out for up-to-date details on our website at www.thrapstontennisclub.so.uk.
The club was established at its current site on the edge of the town in 1958 and major improvements to the clubhouse and courts were undertaken in 2004. We have 4 tarmacadam courts with night lighting and a practice wall. The excellent clubhouse has modern facilities including changing rooms, a kitchen and a sitting room, with views from the adjacent veranda overlooking the courts. We have been fortunate this year
to receive a grant from the East Northants Communities Facilities Fund to replace our court lights and renovate the veranda.
We welcome players of all ages and any standard. For those new to the game or just looking to improve, courses are run by R2R Tennis (https://r2rtennis.co.uk) throughout the year for groups according to age and individually. The costs for coaching and membership are very modest and compare favourably with other clubs in the region.
In normal times, the club has a weekly programme of social tennis on club nights and separate ladies’ and men’s nights
for group play. In addition, in-house
tournaments are held during the summer. We also participate in the Northampton Lawn Tennis summer and winter leagues and the East Northants Summer League, although this year’s summer leagues have been cancelled due to coronavirus. We anticipate that matches with other clubs will commence at the beginning of September with resumption of the Northampton Lawn Tennis winter league. Similarly, we expect to hold in-house tournaments and club nights when the situation allows, albeit probably without the social elements such as club night fish and chip suppers and BBQs.
We pride ourselves on our reputation
for being a very friendly club and would encourage anybody interested in visiting the club to get in touch.
