Making a difference at a distance Souster Youth...
Schools are nearly empty, streets are quiet and shopping centres and sports venues look like the set of a dystopian drama.
If there’s a cliche that could describe
these times then it’s been used already. Fortunately, describing these times is the job of commentators; our job at Souster Youth is to figure out how to support young people when we can’t meet face-to-face. And that’s what we’ve been doing.
This term we are offering lessons, group and 1-2-1 support as well as youth worker training - all online. We’re doing enough ‘zooming’ to launch a rocket. There are enormous challenges ahead for all of us. We’re already seeing increases in domestic abuse and poor mental health as a result of strained family finances.
We face more questions than answers about what youth work looks like at a distance, but the needs are real and our mission is as critical as ever.
There are two things we’re hanging on to in uncertainty, you may find them helpful too:
JIGSAW
IS NOW ONLINE!

First, as an old proverb says, ‘this too shall pass.’ Try to stay hopeful and pass it on.
Second, try to focus on what you can do today to savour this day. It was the wisest of humans who once said, ‘each day has enough trouble of its own.’
