Gift in Kind
In June 2024, the regiment provided the remaining AS90s to the UK’S Gift in Kind (GIK) program. Multiple E Battery personnel volunteered our leave to work on the guns to get them ready to be shipped to Ukraine. Led by Sgt Ross, E Battery led the way in the workshops facing a myriad of challenges but always over- coming each of them and getting the final AS90s in the regiment out the door, with the final AS90 (81) on its way to the East only weeks later.
Future Artillery Conference
Looking to the future, this brings us to the Future Artillery Conference. Taking place in Paris, France, with support of the French Armed Forces, with over 40 NATO nations in attendance. Amongst the vast array of high-ranking generals and command- ers from all corners of the globe, E Battery were invited to get a taste of what the future of the Gunners could potentially look like. Capt Jobbins, WO2 Warwick, SSgt Knight and Sgt Jacques jour- neyed to Paris, attending briefs on current and future capabilities, rounding off the first day with a networking cocktail reception, a highly valuable opportunity to forge relationships and connect with allied partners. The following days provided rich array of topics and the SP from E Battery took this opportunity to widen our perspective of the strategic overview of the global theatre, how the future of artillery with play a part in the changing of this theatre and innovative strategies being employed in war zones around the world.
Sports
Now time to delve into the remarkable sporting achievements of E Battery soldiers this year. Kicking things off with the Gunner Football Cup Final, where 1 RHA came out victorious with a large
part of that success due to high quality E Battery players and coaching staff leading the team to victory, notably Gnr Goodman assisting and scoring in the final, resulting in a 3-2 Victory over 7 RHA. LBdr Greenan and Gnr Smith, both talented athletes from E Battery, demonstrated our mettle in the RA Boxing Championship. Both emerged victorious in their weight categories, showcasing both skill and determination. Our success earned them both a coveted CO’s coin, recognizing outstanding performance. E Bat- tery’s influence extended beyond national borders. While on tour in Italy, a significant contingent of E Battery personnel proudly represented Gunner Rugby as players and management. Bdr Turnbull demonstrated remarkable endurance and determination during the Bataan Memorial Death March, a gruelling 26.2-mile march with 16kg of weight to carry, completing the challenging course and showing his extreme physical and mental endurance.
