1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery
Ex COLD VINE with German Counterparts
ment with partners across the globe. A fantastic opportunity to work with AH64 and A-10Cs, the purveyors of Close Air Support.
Ex Flash Torro in Central Spain saw Fox Troop collaborate with the Spanish Parachute Brigade and the 3rd Special Operations Group, further strengthening international ties. They also returned to Georgia to work with the 74th Fighter Squadron at Moody Air Force Base, focusing on simplifying complex air environments and enhancing training outcomes for both parties.
Ex COLD VINE was attended by 5 troop members on invitation from Capt Karotsch from the Bundeswehr. It saw the team con- duct a Multinational Joint Fires exercise utilising the Luftwaffe and UK JTACs, Bundeswehr JFOs and Team Leaders to demonstrate our capability to operate in a contested LSCO environment.
Home Exercises
Ex FLASH BANG 24-1 saw a long drive to Cape Wrath under impeccable conditions to work with 6 Typhoon Squadron dur- ing their CAS work up for Op Shader. This culminated in the live control of Paveway IV 500 Ib bombs. With plenty of time to train in the remote area of Scotland, plenty of beneficial training was achieved for both junior pilots and junior JTACs alike.
Ex GALILEA LIGHTENING were invited by our RAF counterparts at the ALI Sqn to attend this opportunity to work with the Qatari Typhoon pilots during their CAS workup. Scenarios were created which allowed a smooth transition into the chaotic word that air to ground fires can be. It was a great experience for those who were new to controlling.
Ex Flash Bang 24-2 saw the favours returned with our Ameri- can and Spanish partners invited to exercise over the course of two weeks. The exercise conducted over Hampshire, Wiltshire and Lincolnshire saw a plethora of assets supported the exer- cise from US F15s and UK typhoons Fast Jet Sqns and 659 and 22 Rotary Wing Sqns. A return in hospitality saw the exercis- ing troops take a trip to the Royal International Air Tattoo which afforded those taking part to see the latest innovative technology. They also got to hear from the brightest and best leaders from the aviation industry and militaries.
Celebrations and Farewells
Cpl Willis and Gnr Richer obtained their Caving Foundation qualifications, while Sgt Wharfe completed Climbing Multi-Pitch
UK APACHE on Ex FLASH BANG 24
Leader training. This enthusiasm for alternate training opportuni- ties led to Ex Eryri Fox, a week-long adventure training exercise in Wales.
Many individuals celebrated successes in individual career pro- gression courses such as their OP ACK courses, TACP Courses, JTAC Courses, JTAC-I courses, and initial JTAC Qualifications whilst balancing their busy schedules, a commendable effort.
The Troop also celebrated the promotions of five members: SSgt Coulson, Sgt Toon, SSgt Wharfe, Bdr Hodnett, and LBdr William- son. These promotions reflect their hard work and dedication to the Troop and Regiment.
In a year of significant achievements, the Troop bid farewell to key members. SSgt Coleman, known for his frenetic persona is a character to lose. Capt Gaughan, instrumental in raising Fox Troop’s standards, will be greatly missed. Their contributions have been vital to maintaining the Troop’s high reputation that WO2 Garrod has set over the last few years.
Fox Troop’s year has been marked by extensive training, interna- tional collaboration, and professional development, positioning them for continued success and operational excellence in the future.
