Sandhurst – the hallmark of the British Army – trains individuals to become their best selves and inspires the leader in eve-
ryone. People from all over the Kingdom work hard to get selected to train at one of the best military training institutes in the World. And at the prestigious institute, they are joined by their colleagues-to-be from all over the World. These are the International OCdts – fine future leaders sent by their governments to learn

peoplewhenyou’recold, wetandhungry.Butthe most amazing thing is seeing all such brilliant indi- viduals gathered in one place and the integration of so many experiences and cultures in one.
There is a lot of work done on the integration of International OCdts with the rest of our British peers but there are often some gaps left. And these gaps are largely dependent on the dif-

ference in culture and language. As every International Cadet comes to Sandhurst with a different cultural and linguistic background, some find it relatively easier to fit in while some have lasting difficulties. Internationals often find it challenging to keep up with the pace at which the Academy progresses as information recep- tion becomes a large hurdle when English is your second, third or even fifth language. It at times becomes discouraging too when highly moti- vated and enthusiastic internationals are unable to meet the expectations. With the pandemic, it really added to
the challenges as the majority of the International Cadets have not been home or seen their fami- lies for over a year now.
But despite the challenges and difficulties, Inter- national Cadets learn a great deal, spread their cultural variety, build lifelong relationships with peers, and make the Sandhurst experience more real and not one to miss!
As an International OCdt, it is a brilliant insight into how the British Army operates. From operational tactics to the leadership code, what brings people together in hardships and what it takes to lead

The training imparted at Sand-
hurst is the best of its kind, with
military traditions embedded
perfectly in a largely modernised
and advanced British Army train-
ing institute. For the International
OCdt, it is an extraordinary oppor-
tunity to learn not just what the
British Army has to teach but what
has to offer. And the International OCdts better yet enrich that experience by bringing with them their culture and operational experience.
For the International OCdt, it is an extraordinar y opportunity to learn not just what the British Army has
to teach but what British culture has to offer.
