Impressions of Sandhurst
Lt Col Malik (Jordan)
Ihad heard a lot about the Royal Military Acad- emy Sandhurst, but I never expected to be chosen to represent my country there. Having
never even been to the UK before, I was so excited when I was told that I was to spend five months in one of the oldest and most prestigious military institutes in the World. It was such a great oppor- tunity to work at an Academy, from where some of the most prominent World leaders, including our beloved king, His Majesty King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein of Jordan, have graduated.
Anything may be difficult in the beginning, but when you find good people who support you, things become easier with time. During my time at Sandhurst, I had the opportunity to see many fascinating training activities; some which are different from my own experience, but others that were more familiar. Many things caught my attention; I was particularly impressed by the
competitive spirit among the OCdts, assisting them to develop themselves in their own distinc- tive styles. I also like how the instructors continu- ally review training and how they seek to develop it in line with future requirements; of course, there are too many other things to mention in an article of this length.
One thing that I did not expect to see before coming here is how everyone at Sandhurst is free to practice their own religion. For exam- ple, there is a prayer room and an Imam who administers the needs of Muslim OCdts. We all appreciate how this shows the great respect for International OCdts and the constant quest to provide them with a suitable environment.
Finally, I would like to thank all the friends that I made here in this great institution and hope to see them one day in Jordan.
