Barnwell Country Park survived storms Dudley, Eunice, and Franklin and despite the blustery conditions the trees started to burst into life, with buds appearing and blackthorn beginning to blossom. That was the signal for the rangers and volunteers to step back from the bulk of the ‘winter work’, where we manage the park for the wildlife.

few repairs to complete following
the winter, but many of these need to
wait until the weather improves. Path improvements, for example, must wait
until the conditions are right, otherwise more damage is done making the repairs than needed repairing in the first place!
During this transitional phase the volunteers indulged their creative side. Using materials from the site, they have built a wigwam by weaving some of the dogwood from the coppicing work. Also, two new natural-play features have been added to the Den Building
created two large caterpillars. There are lots of little jobs and
projects on the list for the next few months, so if you spot our volunteer team while you are visiting, please do thank them for their hard work. The park really would be lost without them.
