 Association Golf Barnsley Branch
Iwould like to start by thanking Jeff (Tug) Wilson and Andy (Dickie) Dowling for organising and helping run our branch golf day this year. At a rather blowy and gusty golf course on this occasion, and after a slow start due to tee timings, we eventually got into our rhythm, with eve- rything flowing well after that. It was great to see the serving Regiment involved hav- ing travelled from Catterick for the day.
The turnout was the best we have had for some time with a total of 37 players turn- ing out this year. As normal the staff at Silkstone GC were very helpful and looked after us exceptionally well. Joanne Cotton the Office Manager for the Golf Club was again very supportive of our needs on the day, always pleased to see Light Dragoon soldiers and veterans at the club and on their course.
The round of golf we played this year appeared to take a long time with some 4 Balls taking up to 5 hrs to get around (unsure why), that said, it did not affect the enjoyment of playing a round of golf with friends.
  This year’s prizes went to:
1st Andy Dowling with 42 points – Winner of the 2021 Jack Castle Trophy 2nd Adam Hurst with 36 points
3rd Terry Quinn with 34 points
Lowest gross was Geordie Waters 31 Nearest to pin was Dave (Benny) Bennett Longest way round was Steve Snaith
For your diaries, we are now booked up for 2022 on Fri 30 Sep. We are looking

for a replacement to take over my appoint- ment /role as Golf Coordinator as I will be standing down in 2022 due to health rea- sons, so if anyone is available would like to take charge, please contact me for more information.
Thank you all for your continued support.

The Branch played their annual golf competition at the Hobson Golf Course in Burnopfield near Newcastle this year. The day proved to be a warm 16.5 deg and dry which was just right for a day on the golf course. After cancel- ling last years (2020) golf day due to the pandemic we were able to make this the first North East Branch event in almost a year and a half. A good turnout of 21 players 7 of which were from the serv- ing Regiment who travelled by minibus from Catterick to join us. Vince Burns ex BSM 15/19H was also in attendance
having travelled from Blackpool to take part in the day.
The course itself was in top condi- tion and a pleasure to play on, with the greens and overall course well cared for and prepared. This year’s winner of the Newcastle Hussar was again Major Simon Stott (he also won it in 2019), Sgt Maj Adam Hirst was a close second.
We would all like to thank ex 15/19H SSMTedCoxforrunningthisyear’sgolf day at his home club and we look for-
ward to playing the course again some- time in the future. The 2022 Golf Day and venue will be released in the HHQ 2022 Spring Newsletter.
