Cpl Crawford was selected for pro- motion to Sgt and has now departed to take up his new appointment as a Chief Clerk at 170 Engr Gp in Chilwell. Cpl McKay was promoted to Cpl and has substantiated following a strong performance on ALDP and LCpl Kwateng recently selected for promotion to Cpl – he has been rewarded by being extended in post! Most recently Pte Stanley has been selected for promo- tion to LCpl.
OP NEWCOMBE
In December 2020, four personnel from the Detachment deployed to deliver G1 assistance to the Task Group on Op Newcombe. Whilst deployed, the SPS Detachment delivered excellent G1 assis- tance to include maintaining allowances, move and track, secure document handling and operational record handling. Given the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions they also oversaw COVID testing and isolation management both abroad and upon return to the United Kingdom.
When the Regiment returned in full in June 2021, the Detachment conducted a successful Regimental Assurance Check overseen by the Sys Co-Ord, Sgt Melvin, before enjoying a slightly delayed Medals Parade in September 21.
SPORTS
The Light Dragoons is a very encouraging Regiment to be attached to, especially when it comes to sporting events. We have many sporty individuals within the Detachment who take every opportunity to achieve great things. In June 2021, SSgt Ross, Cpl McKay, LCpl McCroll and LCpl Kwateng were part of a very successful team in the UK North Athletics Championships. Cpl McKay came first in the female triple jump and LCpl McCroll achieved second place in the long jump which helped to secure the female team with an overall second place.
Cpl Stevenson has got the ‘competing bug’ back once again and in July 2021 took part in the Outlaw Half Holkham event which saw her finish 10th in her age category and an overall position of 585 of the 1406 who took part in the event. Also, in July 2021
Cpl Stevenson successfully completed the Army Tri-Suit. She is currently train- ing in readiness for the Army Triathlon Season and North League Triathlon events and plans on competing in the London Marathon in October 2021 and will be rep- resenting the Army when she does so.
