2021 started with the MT department in Mali on Op Newcombe, support- ing on Military Aid to Civil Authorities tasks, providing troops to Op Escalin and finally finishing up on Ex Wessex Storm. A thoroughly busy year for the soldiers in MT.
WO2 Bowman took over MTWO / MTO post summer leave and was guided through the first LSI by the MT veteran Cpl ‘Iron Mike’ Rutherford. Sgt ‘Rocky’ Cribbin arrived shortly after to take the MT Sgt post from Sgt Coulthard and
As another year ends, it is time to reflect on what has been achieved by “The Wing” Team of the Light Dragoons dur- ing another year of restrictions surround- ing COVID. Staying in action where we were able, we have managed to train some top students who, inevitably proved them- selves to be on top of their game giving the regiment recognition at the top! A selec- tion of top student Crew commanders, A Schools Signals instructors and distinc- tions on SAA to name a few.
Starting early in the year we have had A & HQ Sqns return from Mali OP NEWCOMBE, and the career course catch up began. After being away for so long it was surprising to see some fine Tpr’s and JNCO’s eager to spend more time away but needs must, a thanks to all the Sqn’s for leaning in and providing some quality instructors to hit the pre-course requirements.
Prior to some summer leave 2021 “The Wing” has been flipped, with the first of several changes within the department;

later in the year it would almost take his soul. Had it not been for Iron Mike shouting “Time” then it could have all been over for this old racehorse.
The main test of the year came in the form of Ex Wessex Storm where the tight constraints of drivers’ hours tested our ability to manoeuvre (and patience) throughout. MT supported A1 Heavy, and the troop managed to hide 26 trucks from the enemy forces without being decisively engaged once. The end of the exercise saw the department follow up
Training Wing
Captain “Dez” O’Connor moves into the long vacant Training Officer seat from Welfare, I’m sure he is chuffed!!
SSgt “Scot” Dinsley takes over the RDMI role moving in from B Sqn SQMS while the newly promoted WO2 “Cossie” Costello moves across to become A Sqn SSM, we will miss his terrible socks!!!
Sgt “Pez” Perryman has now been pro- moted to SSgt and remains the RGSS and Yankee candle distributor for N. Yorks and, as I write this is deployed to Castlemartin putting his skills to use ensuring the regi- mental ranges run smoothly, while no doubt stinking out South Wales with the smells of chocolate or cinnamon candles!
Sgt “Jimmy” Tynan will return to the Regiment at some point, if he can peel himself away from Blue Peter present- ing at AFC Harrogate, he will eventually take over the RSSI role from Cpl Wilson who, sadly leaves us after a very worthy stint. He will move back to a hand selected Command Troop, prior to departing on

the F Echelon troops into Wales where we supported them with rolling and bat- tle replens throughout.
We now look forward to supporting C Sqn The Legion on Op Defender in Poland over the coming months. MT will provide UST, packed fuel, and other stores support throughout the deploy- ment and we will undoubtedly once again test our G4 skills and drills.

Crew commanders in 2022, we wish him well.
In all, we close off another extremely busy year, with plans for 2022 not looking too different “The Wing” will always strive to deliver training whatever the need and will continue to deliver on all fronts. We look forward to providing the training support in preparation for validation and wider regimental deployments as frustrating as this can often be, the results speak for themselves and the LD Soldiers continue to deliver the goods.
Finally, my time as the TWWO comes to an end! I move to undertake my final few Months attending various resettlement courses before transitioning to civilian street in 2022.
Thank you to all that have supported my time as TWWO, it has not gone unnoticed.
Good luck for 2022 to all!
