“Laughter and the chink of Prosecco glasses were soon heard”
Despite a very cold day in London, hampered by train cancellations and a large demonstration through the city, not to mention the hordes of Christmas shoppers, 60 members of QARANC stoically made their way to Mayfair to attend their annual lunch at the University Women’s Club in Audley Square.
Very soon the sound of chatter, laughter and of course the clink of Prosecco glasses could be heard from the main entrance and up the wide sweeping stairs to the first floor of this mid-Victorian redbrick building to the library where everyone had gathered for the reception.
Festive music played in the background to greet everyone with tables of raffle prizes and a tombola on display. This raised a good sum of money due to the generosity of the members and guests. The committee members were busy manning the tables, meeting and greeting and directing guests to the Prosecco table for a much-needed glass of fizz!
At 1pm we were all directed to the adjoining dining room with its richly decorated walls and ceiling. The room was a superb location for such a setting of a Christmas lunch with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the roofs of London’s Mayfair district.
Christmas lunch was served followed by dessert
and coffee and of course the raffle prizes. Thereafter we had a very interesting update from Colonel Marie Richter on the changes to the army medical services that are currently taking place. A big thank you to all the committee members for organizing this successful event.
