Capt Walton holds forth... and people nearly listened
the other A1 elements within the battlegroup, comprising of French and Danish A1’s. This would then be expanded during the 1st Estonian Brigade’s integration exercise, BOLD HUSSAR, where all three NATO nations were represented within A1. There were many exercises in the first half of Op CABRIT 11 but some that held particular significance for the MT department are wor- thy of note. Ex TOLLU RUSIKAS, aiding the movement of CR2 on to the Island of Saaremaa; a feat last achieved by the Russians 50 years previously. Facilitating movements for Ex CRIMSON ARROW, a 150km road march eastwards to prove the deploy- ment plans for the battlegroup, featuring every vehicle within the eFP BG. Finally, Ex VERTS WARRIOR, a French, Danish and UK integration exercise tested the A1 with a battlegroup level night replenishment which was called in after extreme weather conditions; this resulted in several routes being cut off to tracked vehicles. It has been an extremely busy but rewarding time for the MT element in Estonia; the small team has really dug out to successfully support the eFP BG.
Port task group doing their thing
The team in Estonia has also been able to focus on deployment thanks to the fantastic team headed by WO2 Oakes back in the UK. The onward travel for R&R flights has been expertly cov- ered off by Cpl Matthews and Tpr Rowe. This has been fault- less, despite last minute RAF flight changes, and has seen all KRH returned home for a well earnt break with their families. Alongside this task they have been supporting the constant move- ments between Estonia and the UK as members of the battlegroup return home for courses or their end of tour. Cpl Roberts has also had the opportunity to attend his CR2 Commanders course, a great achievement and we wish him all the best in completing this milestone course. This year has also seen the department say goodbye to Tpr Bickerton; he is thanked for all his work and support to the department and wished all the best for his future endeavours. As the department looks forward to the challenges of 2023 we can do so with the confidence and experience gained from 2022, a challenging year, where every opportunity has been grasped and learnt from.
