  Scone Palace Garden Fair 2024
The Scottish Branch are planning to attend the Scone Place Garden Fair again this year following on from another successful event last year.
Dates for this event are Friday 31st May to Saturday 1st of June in the fabulous grounds of the Scone Palace estate, Perth, PH2 6BD. We are planning to have a wide variety of vegetable plants and herb plants for sale along with our famous leek transplants, in bundles of 50.
There will be plenty of committee members available to answer and help with any gardening questions you may have. It’s also the chance to meet some of the presenters from the Beechgrove Garden, including, of course, Brian Cunningham, who’s the head gardener at Scone Palace.
The organisers plan to celebrate the best of Scottish gardening where the country’s top plant nurseries, garden
centres and societies will be on the main lawns under the backdrop of the historic Scone Palace - the crowning place of the Scottish Kings. Why not also take the opportunity to explore their woodland walk, get lost in the Murray Star Maze and enjoy their recently opened walled garden. Please take a look at the event of the NVS web site for more details.

                                    Scottish Branch – 200 Club
Thank you to all members who have submitted a Scottish Branch 200 club form, your support makes a big difference. 2023’s prize draws ran from March to Dec to allow for more applications to come in before we start. We will be doing the same this year, so there’s still time to get your forms submitted.
Below are the last 3 months of draw results from 2023. Congratulations.
Our Scottish Branch members received a 200-club form within their January magazine for 2024, but you do not have to be a Scottish Branch member (or even an NVS member) to join, so please encourage friends and family too.
The prize draw is taken at the end of each month, so make sure you send in your forms for 2024 or print an extra form or two from the web site which you can find a PDF copy in the “Resources” section of the NVS web site to enable you to print one out.
Alternatively, please contact Gareth Cameron. 2 Dyke Nook, Yeathouse Road, Frizington, Cumbria CA26 3QL, Telephone: 07935 117 397 or email: garethcameron04@gmail.com
Prize money is dependent on how many 200 Club members we have with half the revenue generated going towards the Scottish Branch funds and half going towards the 200-club prize money.
Thanks again for your support, it really makes a difference.
Dundee & East of Scotland DA
The D.A. had a talk on the 3rd of December which was well supported. The change to holding the talks on a Sunday afternoon made a positive difference to the number of attendees.
The talk, by Ian Simpson, was on Peat free growing and included some of his trials and findings from the previous year, plus Ian gave an informative insight into growing with Peat
free compost and a look at the various ready-made products available. It’s interesting to note some of the short shelf life’s on some products which is good to be aware of along with the focus required on water retention and leaching of fertiliser through excessive watering. Thanks Ian.
As you read this article, the DA will have held it’s AGM and we will report on that and future talks in the summer edition of the SV Magazine.
Billl Duff FNVS, DA Chair.
