No cheating is allowed at the World Championships, which is played to a strict set of rules, overseen by stewards. Charlie Bray used to say that the best conker was one which had been ‘passed through a pig’, but filling a conker with resin, baking it in the oven, soaking it in vinegar, or even using last year’s have all been known to have been tried in lesser competitions.
Jim Packer says: ‘This is a lovely family event and a great day out. We are proud to hold this prestigious event in Northants, and yet again enjoy the support of the Council. If you’ve
not been, give it a go. And the junior (U-16) competition is included in the entry price, so everyone can take part.’
