The end of May is often a busy time and now the frosts have hopefully passed,
I have planted out my first sowing of runner beans, French beans, sweetcorn and outdoor Tomatoes Mountain Magic. Lettuce Analena, sown in early February and planted under an enviromesh cloche for protection, were ready to start cutting at the end of May; these were delicious in a salad with freshly pulled radish and spring onions. The strawberry bed has been mulched with straw and looks like they will produce
a decent crop this year. The polytunnel plot has been planted with tomatoes and peppers and the cucumbers will
be ready to plant out in June. Marrows, courgettes, squashes and later batches of sweetcorn and runner beans will also be planted in June, which will almost
fill the plot, then it will be a matter of just keeping the plot hoed and crops harvested followed by later sowings of other crops to keep the plot productive throughout the year.
Despite our extra seeds sales this year, don’t worry about seed supply; we have been busy securing more seed so we can still fulfil your allotment orders this autumn. Plus, don’t forget if any NAS member has a seed problem and needs some free advice, the team at Kings Seeds are always at the end of a phone to help.
Happy Gardening!
