SPOTS?
Transition Oundle
As winter sets in, keeping our homes warm becomes more and more expensive. Thermal imaging lets you see cold spots in your home and can help you identify the places where most heat is being lost. Transition Oundle
has an IR camera which is available for you to borrow, so that you can check your own home.
Often the camera will highlight areas where insulation can be fitted quite easily and cheaply. Sometimes a door loses a lot of heat only at the bottom, when fitting a draught excluder might keep in a lot of heat, but if the door leaks all round, then a heavy curtain might be more effective. Uneven heat loss through a ceiling can show you where loft insulation has been disturbed or not laid properly, both of which might be quite simple to fix.
The camera may also show you a radiator that is not heating evenly, either at the top because of air, which is easy to deal with, or at the bottom because of sludge, which is not so straightforward but might be an early warning of problems to come with the heating system. We can help you save images from the camera that you could show to a workman or landlord, if that might be useful.
The camera is easy to operate and we will provide instructions, we just ask for a small donation, say £5 to £10 a day.
