Local Fairtrade
September 2024 sees the 30th anniversary of the Fairtrade movement in the UK, a key lever in the move to more ethical trade around the world and, of course, locally too.
Oundle has been a Fairtrade town since 2007 and is hoping to beef up its Fairtrade activities as a part of the 30th anniversary celebrations. Recently, the chance to support fairly traded goods has received a boost with the opening
of The Lemon Tree Eatery, which only uses locally roasted organic coffee. Also, we hope our market stall on the Oundle Farmers Market on 15th September (supported as ever by the Coop in Oundle, one of the real bulwarks of the Fairtrade movement, and the first retailer to shift to 100% Fairly traded cocoa, then following with tea, coffee, sugar wine, bananas,
flower and charcoal) will help spread the word – do come and say “hi”!
Of course, the flagship of our year is the annual Fairtrade Eco Gift and Christmas Market on Saturday 9th November in St Peters Church, the same day as the Oundle Farmers Market, which draws together a wide range
of local suppliers and providers of fairly and ethically traded goods and green gifts – an ethical Christmas sorted!
