1 RIFLES
RIFLEMEN IN CYPRUS
17 months since leaving our long-term
home in Chepstow, 1 RIFLES has enjoyed a
fascinating time in Cyprus, at the forefront
of MOD activity across the Middle East.
Weeks after arriving as the Regional
Standby Battalion, under the command
of British Forces Cyprus and PJHQ, Hamas
attacks in Israel gave us a real operational
focus. The subsequent period has seen
our Rifleman directly support the UK
humanitarian and de-escalation efforts,
with small groups deployed in multiple
locations. The Bn has concurrently
focussed on Defence Engagement
through improved relationships with
the Cypriot National Guard, developed
NATO interoperability with the German
military anti-tank capabilities, and joint
operational planning with the Saudi Land
Forces.
Now deep into our time as the Cyprus
Operations Bn, we are continuing to protect
UK critical national infrastructure that
supports NATO Defence efforts. We have
been fortunate to host the Prime Minister,
the Colonel Commandant, and various local
dignitaries for various engagements.

Our operational focus has been well
balanced for our Rifleman and their
families, which has been a welcome and
unique experience that we will remember
for many years to come. Ed Sheeren even

As we enter 2025, we prepare to return
home to Beachley Barracks and join 7
LMBCT as an LMI Bn. Whilst continuing to
exemplify what it means to be a Rifleman
we eagerly prepare for challenges to
come.
