OPERATION INTERFLEX
2024 has been another successful year for
Op INTERFLEX, which is now in its second
year of being an active operation to train the
Armed Forces of Ukraine.
With 13 different nations supporting, it
continues to provide basic recruit training,
Instructor training, section commander,
platoon commander and platoon / company
sergeant courses. These are delivered in four
training sites known as Training Delivery
Units, based on training areas across the UK.
This year, we have seen the completion of
Tranche 4 and 5 and have hit the milestone
of over 50,000 troops trained since the
operation’s inception in June 2022. From the
outset The Rifles have had a presence on
every Tranche with training teams deployed
front and centre for several high-profile visits,
providing feedback through the lessons
learned loop process to enhance training.
This lessons process has enabled the
operation to continue to adapt and evolve to
deliver the best training for personnel.
The year has seen the construction of
many typical trench systems around the
training areas to add realism to the training;
an increase in the use of “Mabway” casualty
role players and special effects (SFX) teams
to add to the battle inoculation side of the
training; and a heavy focus on the use
of drones and Counter Unmanned Aerial
Systems tactics in both the urban and the
rural/ trench setting. 2025 will continue to see
further developments with the aspiration to
bring on additional international partners, and
to continue to adapt the training programs
and course lengths to deliver a high quality of
training through Tranches 6 and 7.
