AND
FLAIR HAIR
DESIGN
Styling for the whole family
Hayley Watts took over Flair Hair Design
on 1st January 2016, from her mother who
previously ran the business for over 20 years.
What made you choose Th rapston? I
trained and worked at Flair before taking the
business on. I’ve just completed my ninth year
of ownership. I’m so pleased to be based in the
town, it’s very friendly with a great community
feel. All the shops support each other and work
together to help Th rapston fl ourish.
Tell us more… Flair was originally owned
by my Aunty Sandra in the 1970’s, based in
the building that is now Spot On, then later it
moved to above the Bread Basket. Flair was one
of the fi rst unisex salons in the area.
How many people work in the salon? We
currently have three full time stylists and a
part time stylist. All our stylists have trained
here, ranging from 12-23 years experience. I’m
always looking out for trainee stylist if anyone is
interested in a career in hairdressing?
Highlight of your day? We love the variety
of our work, meeting diff erent people and
producing new styles. Catching up with our
regular clients is great – many feel like family.
Salon insider? Th ere’s always plenty of
football talk, as well as what everyone’s cooking
for dinner and we’re all crazy about dogs!
Describe your business in fi ve words…
Hairdressers for the whole family.
Any funny moments? In the 1970’s the
salon was originally going to be called ‘Fleur’,
aft er a character in a tv programme, but aft er a
miscommunication between the owner and the
signwriter it became ‘Flair’.
What makes Flair Hair diff erent? We know
times are hard at the moment so if all you want
is a dry trim, not the full cut and blow dry, then
that’s fi ne. If you need a conditioning treatment
but don’t want us to dry and style then that’s
