  The final over in an immaculate innings for C Squadron in 2017 was a test exercise for the COMBAT update. There was much scratching of heads during four weeks at West Down Camp, but a great chance to improve our signals skills and mounted ma- noeuvre across the board. With the focus on the Scots Guards Battlegroup for the ‘close battle’, C Squadron could promote the Armoured Cavalry as a Brigade or Divisional Reconnaissance as- set, begin to form our Support Troop and allow Corporal Pipe to demonstrate his skills as a Driving and Maintenance Instructor.
There have been other achievements throughout the past year; the Babington Shield is documented elsewhere in this jour- nal, however, it is still worth mentioning that C Squadron was victorious after wins in the football, orienteering, cross-country and cycling. We have demonstrated our fertility after welcoming

three new children into the world. The Officer Commanding finally bought a telelvision when he returned from Germany so congratulations go to Sergeant Blakeley, Corporal Hutchinson, Trooper Hutchinson and, rather unexpectedly, Trooper Black- burn. And, welcome back to Corporal Chaplin.
Solid C. Over the past 12 months C Squadron has become just that. A busy year of training deployments, Adventurous Train- ing expeditions and social events to all areas of the country has ensured we have spent an enormous amount of time living and working in close proximity. A more convivial, more enterpris- ing, more athletic bunch of men and women you will struggle to find.
