The best part of being out here is the travelling. It is a short hop across to the mainland which makes weekends the perfect little break. So far I’ve visited Tel Aviv, Israel (best food I’ve ever had), and Petra and Amman, Jordan (stunning scenery and lots of Wadi walks). Next on the list is Cappadocia, Turkey, to see the hot air balloons over the rock formations and Beirut to visit some friends who are posted there. The flights are never more than 1.5 hours and they take you to a different world! Cyprus itself isn’t bad for a day trip or long weekend. The Troodos mountains offer great hikes, and if you like cycling there’s a few hills to climb and descend. I discovered a craft ale brewery just outside Paphos and, as Mess Wines Member, I requested that their stock be added to our bar. Now we can enjoy a real ale alongside cool lager whilst relaxing by the mess pool.
The time has flown by these last 6 months and, though I do regularly get back to the UK for Rep Sport and to see my family,
I am thoroughly enjoying being out here. I would recommend the experience to everyone who can get the chance. The dentistry is pretty interesting too – dependents adding a whole new level to the variety of treatments.
