CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
December already, where has the year gone? It has certainly been a year of ups and downs and a lot of you will have had to change and adapt to a new way of working and living.
Hopefully during this festive season we will spend quality time with our family and friends but take a moment to remember those who have lost loved ones and for whom Christmas will be a challenge this year. Please look out for those spending Christmas alone and make time to be a good neighbour for those in need.
As Mayor I am invited to events from other Mayors to raise money for their chosen charities and at a quiz night at Raunds we entered a team of five aptly named Thrapston Try Hards finishing mid table, an enjoyable evening.
Daventry Civic service was at the beautiful historic Holy Cross Church built circa 1750. The service was personal to the Mayor Karen Tweedale as a family friend with Muscular Dystrophy spoke of her life after being diagnosed at the age of seven and a local school student sang ‘I dreamed a dream’ from Les Misérables, a moving service.
Rushden Civic service
saw us process to St Marys
Church from Rushden Hall
through an autumnal Hall
Park. Again, a heartfelt
service with a performance
by ‘It’s My Life’ a group of disabled young adults performing to the song ‘What a wonderful world’ led by Mayor Melanie Coleman.
We are fortunate to have a wealth of amazing independent traders in this town both on our High Street and online. On
my travels to surrounding towns I hear
that we are a destination High Street which
is down to the quality of our traders and
their products. They work hard to promote themselves so please continue to support them. You can shop locally now for so much, make a conscious decision to visit our High Street you might be surprised at just how much is on offer. Take a look at the Thrapston Town App for more information and some online traders you might not yet be aware of.
A Merry Christmas to you and your families.
