Commencing the 29th November 2019, B (Malta) company departed on adventurous training in Bavaria, south Germany. The week started off on a high, with a country walk ending at Neuschwanstein Castle - the iconic castle of the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The remaining days of the first week were met with some beautiful views from the peaks of Imberger Horn and Grunten fall along with many others. We were extremely lucky to witness the Halloween season
in the local town of Sonthofen, which is also the area that special forces of various nationalities do their mountain cadre. The atmosphere around the town was electric and was full of fun and laughter as well as some great food.
With some tiring legs, the call was made to do a little indoor climbing at an excellent climbing facility in Kempten. This raised
a few problems of its own as multiple students had a fear of heights. With a little encouragement and a lot of will power everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy our day on the walls. The next day we decided that we should progress and try out some outdoor climbing. The chosen area was the dramatic landscape of Fussen falls, which made for some great views and some great climbing.
During the outdoor climbing session,
we added in some abseiling which yet again brought the fear flushing back. Yet again we all mustered our courage and completed the abseil at least once before moving on to complete six challenging climbs. Every member of the group was tested throughout the day. With most of the group succeeding in the climbs, there was a definite sense of achievement at the end of the day.
Overall, the Adventurous training package was enjoyed to its fullest by all whom participated.
