During the past four months, on a weekly basis, Cpl Whiteside and Pte Ittoo have been teaching cookery to a group of 40 school children of Year 1 from Episkopi Primary School. The children had the opportunity to learn
how to make pizza,
pasta, biscuits and smoothies. Each
week, we had the
chance to teach
several different
recipes along with
tasting, which the
children thoroughly enjoyed.
Under the supervision of their teachers, Mrs. Parker and Mr. Charalambous and the Learning Support Assistants, we introduced several different skills including the kitchen setting, knife skills, nutrition,
culinary terms as well as food safety. We taught the children the importance of hygiene and food sanitation as key components in any culinary setting. The importance of washing hands before

as well as how to clean and wash the vegetables was also highlighted. Moreover, colour-coded boards were used to avoid cross-contamination and outbreak of
food-borne illness. We encourage children to understand the basics of kitchen setting as they develop their sensory, social and language skills as well as their mathematical abilities.

despite being away from home and based in operating bases. We have had a very enjoyable and rewarding experience as well as being a pleasure to pass on our cookery knowledge to the children at Episkopi School.

This then saw the Lead Company Group (LCG) deploy for 4 months as part of the Reginal Standby Battalion (RSB).
We have said our farewells to the RQMS (T) WO2 Catherwood on promotion to WO1, RSM 2 MERCIAN, and to the 1LO SSgt Smith on promotion to WO2. We have now welcomed the arrival of WO2 Frost as the new RQMS (T) and a new 1LO SSgt Gurung.
The Dept has supported several deployments on Overseas Training Exercisers (OTXs), which have deployed from Cyprus. With this and dealing with the complexities of the supply issues of being in Cyprus we have been kept on our toes.
We have ensured that we have taken advantage of being in Cyprus, which has ranged from Adventure Training (AT),

exploring the Island and making the most of our location here in Cyprus. This has seen members of the Dept take short breaks
to Israel, Jordan and Greece to name but
a few. We are already getting into the preparation stages of the unit move back to Weeton Barracks in 2020.
This year started with the unit move from The Dale Barracks in Chester to Salamanca Barracks in Cyprus. The CO managed to start testing the Dept from the onset, with the QM deploying to Afghanistan during the unit handover for a pre deployment recce.
