Lance Corporals Gopal Gurung, Melissa Holden and Tom Roberts all traded the
sun for snow and attended this year’s Exercise WHITE LION and British Forces Cyprus’ Bay to Bay swim. The Detachment Commander, Capt James Cooke, headed up the Battalion volleyball team in numerous competitions around the island (with
little success so far) and the Regimental Accountant, Sgt Kial Jones, along with a group of juniors saw success as part of the Army Offshore Sailing Regatta. The RAO, Capt Mark Jones, also took a team of MERCIAN Infanteers to compete in
Ex PROTON SERPENT along with the annual Army paragliding championships held in Turkey.
Life as part of the RIB remains challenging and rewarding in equal measures, however, the Detachment consistently make the most of what Cyprus has to offer. From beach excursions and cultural tours of the island to original and refreshing functions organised by the junior ranks, life is never static with the next challenge merely over the horizon which is expected to continue throughout 2019 and beyond.
