Exercise IRON WOLF
quite outstanding achievement particularly when you consider that their training and preparation was limited to weekends and the odd day here and there when civilian work commitments allowed.
Collective and individual sport and Adventurous Training opportunities continue to be exploited and whilst we have numerous sporting stars, this year has seen Capt Christopher Bermingham selected to represent the Army at
Water Polo, winning the Inter-Services competition. He also captained the Infantry Water Polo and swimming teams as well as forming the 4 MERCIAN Swimming Team which participated, with some success, in the Army Reserves Swimming Competition. Similarly, Pte Ella Donnelly was selected to represent the Army in the Women’s Rugby League team.
My congratulations go to WO2 Simon Coulson, CSM D Company, who was awarded the QVRM in the New Years’ Honours List, recognition of his selfless commitment and dedication to the
Army Reserves over the last 32 years. Similarly, congratulations to A/WO2 Glenn Woodward, following his valuable service being recognised with a Lord Lieutenants Certificate.
As well as welcoming to the battalion Pte Victoria Wild who became the first infantry qualified female soldier to join the Army Reserves, Maj Simon Hamilton as XO and Maj Martin Bowden-Williams as OC
B Company, 2Lts Jacob Stone, Natasha Scott and Ben St Clair-Gray have brought with them some much needed youth to the Officer’s Mess. Unfortunately however, we
bid farewell and a special personal thanks to Maj Pete Bullard on his retirement, Maj Frankie O’Connor who returns to his parent unit as OC HQ Coy 1 R IRISH after spells as our QM and XO, Padre Tim Flowers who joins 2 R ANGLIAN as a Regular Padre and WO1 (RSM) Tony Hopkins who moved to 1 MERCIAN as MTO following commissioning.
Finally, on behalf of all-ranks in
4 MERCIAN, I send all of our Regimental family our best wishes and thoughts at this turbulent time – Stand Firm, Strike Hard!
