Capt Jake Berridge
As always, the Infantry Battle School is a hive of activity and the Mercian Regiment personnel posted here are at the forefront of much of this activity. A big focus throughout the last year at IBS
has been the Infantry Platoon Tactics pamphlet re-write. This has specifically seen Mercian instructors concentrating on areas such as Woodland Warfare, Operating in the Urban Environment, and wet gap crossing.
The tactics courses being delivered at IBS continue to be challenging yet rewarding. Many Mercian soldiers and officers have passed through the gates throughout the last year with some outstanding individual performances.
Away from the core business of course delivery, Mercian instructors have been involved in supporting FTU in delivering
Ex WESSEX STORM as observer mentors, escorting officer at
the DSEI, and provided assurance to the Army Reserve. Mercian staff have also been at the heart of the IBS’s “Battle Notes”, a quarterly newsletter circulated around the British Army; writing and editing articles for publication. We also hosted the CO and RSM 2 MERCIAN’s visit to IBS in June 2019 and prior to this, we welcomed Maj Alex Burgess (OC D Company, 1 MERCIAN) on the Commanders’ Day.
More widely, CSgt Peake has represented IBS at various mountain biking events such as endurance and cross-country races. In November 2019, some Mercian staff alongside Maj James Hudson (attached to 3 MERCIAN from 3 RHA), held a memorial service at the Memorial Garden in Brecon, laying a wreath in memory of WO2 Ian Fisher.
The chain-of-command of all 3 battalions, as well as those in the wider Regimental family are always welcome to visit their soldiers and officers on courses and to get a flavour for the current TTPs and doctrine being implemented and trialled at the centre of excellence for Infantry commanders.
